The Chittagong Hill Tracts region is one of the most disadvantaged and isolated areas in Bangladesh. This area has left the local communities lagging behind in the national social and economic indicators. The social and economic activities were severely disrupted during the insurgency period resulting in the deterioration of the socio-economic conditions of the communities. The CHT communities have not yet been able to recover the setback suffered due to prolonged civil unrest in the CHT region, which needs special attention to ensure overall development of the area as well as improvement in the quality of life of the disadvantaged population.
